Tapiwa Myron, the son of Trevor Tutu and unrecognized grandson of renowned human rights advocate Desmond Tutu, has faced a lifetime of struggles stemming from the very family he was born into. This ongoing legal battle is not just about a birth certificate—it’s about Myron’s identity, his future, and his rightful place within South Africa.
- The Department of Home Affairs – Myron’s South African identity remains in limbo due to his father’s refusal to comply with necessary paperwork. As of January 2025, the Department of Home Affairs confirmed that Myron’s details are in their system, but his identity cannot be activated until Trevor Tutu fulfils his obligations. This leaves Myron at risk of being labelled an illegal immigrant, despite overwhelming evidence that he is a South African by birth.
